Remove Loose Dirt and Dust

Sweep the carpet twice from moving to different directions using a stiff-bristled broom. Sweeping from only one direction will clean your carpet from only one side. If possible, roll your carpet and bring it outside your home. Hang it on a rope and beat it using a carpet beater. These methods will remove the loose dirt and debris from your carpet.

Remove Musty Odors 

There are several carpet odor eliminator sprays and powders available on the market. You can use one of those, or baking soda is a helpful agent which is readily available in the kitchen that effectively removes the musty, unpleasant odors from your carpet.

After sweeping the carpet, sprinkle the baking soda in a fine layer all over your carpet and wait for 1-2 hours. After that, vacuum the excessive soda from your carpet. If you don’t have a vacuum cleaner, fill a spray bottle with an equal amount of water and white vinegar; spray it all over your carpet and wait for it to dry.

Spot Cleaning  

Spot carpet cleaning is one of the easiest things that can be done effectively too without any machine. There are different sources of carpet stains in your home, and it is necessary to clean the stains and spills as soon as possible because if the stain sets in, it will make more effort to clean that stain.

As you find the stain, start bloating it with a highly absorbent material like paper towels. Blot the stain as much as you can. Then apply a suitable carpet stain remover or a mixture of warm water and liquid dish soap to stain and again blot the stain to clean it.

Cleaning Whole Carpet 

Before you begin, cleaning the carpet of a room will take plenty of your time when you are cleaning it without a machine. And you have to work hard to make your carpet squeaky clean. Here are the steps to clean the whole carpet without a machine.

  1. Sweep the carpet from both directions to remove loose dirt and debris.
  2. Add 2-3 drops of carpet shampoo and warm water to a spray bottle and mix it thoroughly.
  3. Spray this solution evenly all over your carpet and wait for 10-15 minutes.
  4. Brush the carpet using a carpet brush to remove any trapped dirt.
  5. Starting from the farthest corner of the room, start bloating the carpet using paper towels or an absorbent cloth.
  6. Now fill a clean spray bottle with normal water, spray it on the carpet and continue bloating as done in the previous step.
  7. Now let the carpet dry completely, and keep the windows open and the fan turned on for quick drying.
